The Belize Zoo
The Belize Zoo brife History
The Belize Zoo is located 31 miles west of Belize City and sits on 84 acres of tropical savanna and exhibits over 150 animals, representing over 45 species, all native to Belize. The Belize Zoo came into existence 1983 in an effort to provide a home for 17 wild animals which had been used in the filming of documentaries about the rainforests.
The Belize Zoo highlight
The Belize Zoo keeps animals which were orphaned, rescued, born at the zoo, rehabilitated animals, or sent to The Belize Zoo as donations from other zoological institutions. A visit to the zoo is the best way to get an introduction to the animals of Belize, and to understand why it is important to protect the habitats that sustain them. The animals at the Belize Zoo are not kept in cages or surrounded by bars or barred concrete bunkers but rather housed in large vegetated enclosures of netting and wood.
The Belize Zoo for cruise ship passengers
For our cruise ship passengers the tour departs from the Tourism Village in Belize City (the dock area where the cruise ship tender boats drop off their passengers). As you debark from your tender boat, please look for the Diamonds International store at Terminal 2. Walk through the store to the gate on Fort Street. At the gate, you'll be met by a representative of Splash Wave Tours. Our tours are scheduled to fit within the port time of the cruise ships arriving in Belize City. We monitor the cruise ship tender schedules and plan our tour itineraries to give you plenty of time to return back to your ship, to enjoy a local drink before departure.
For tourist who are staying in Belize City, pick are available depending on the location.
